His Worship the Mayor, Wayne Guppy Breaks Ground at Blue Mountains Campus
We are delighted to announce that on Friday 10 December 2021 we officially broke ground at our $100+ million Blue Mountains Campus development. Many thanks to Kaumatua Peter Jackson for overseeing the ceremony, and to His Worship the Mayor of Upper Hutt, Wayne Guppy and KiwiRail Project Director Carl Mills for sharing their thoughts on how this transformational project will benefit the Wellington region’s future growth.
It was great to be joined by so many important stakeholders including members of Upper Hutt City Council, Gillies Group, Ōrongomai Marae, KiwiRail, and a wide cross-section of the Blue Mountains Campus project team including the architects, Studio Pacific Architecture and construction contractor LT McGuinness Ltd.
We are delighted to have been able to celebrate that onsite works are truly underway and that major national tenant KiwiRail has recognised the campus is a sound choice in terms of its regional centrality, resilience, sustainable design, and outstanding employee offering. In addition, we anticipate being able to make further major tenant announcements imminently.
Located on Ward Street, Upper Hutt, the five-hectare resilient, park-style campus is designed to complement the Wellington CBD. It offers up to 36,000 square metres of Green Star and NABERSNZ-rated commercial and retail space across a mix of strengthened existing buildings, and new commercial buildings. KiwiRail has secured a 20-year lease for 2,800 square metres including the construction of a state-of-the-art train control room in Stage 1 of the development.
